Public policies can make a difference in the lives of people living with mental health conditions. Changes in public policies across a spectrum of service areas – health, housing, justice, social services, etc. – can dramatically impact life outcomes for persons in mental health recovery, for better or for worse.

A primary goal of the advocacy efforts of NAMI NC is to provide persons living with mental illness, their families, peers, and advocates with the information they need to become effective advocates for better mental health services and public policies.

NAMI NC’s Advocacy Day 2023 offers a chance for those of us who are passionate about improving mental health policies to cooperate in a powerful way. For the first time since the pandemic, NAMI NC staff, volunteers, and supporters are going to the NC General Assembly on Jones Street to meet face-to-face with lawmakers to share stories of mental health adversity, recovery, triumph, and all points in between.
