The Board meeting for the NAMI-Wilmington was called to order by Doug Engelman, President at 6:00 pm. A quorum was established with six board members present.

Old Business:

A motion was made by Doug Engelman and seconded by Virginia Goldrick to approve the minutes from the February 20, 2024 NAMI-Wilmington Public Board Meeting. This motion was unanimously approved.

New Business:

Financial Report- Julie Morrow reported on the 2024 Proposed Budget. A motion was made by Kimberly Light and seconded by Sheryl Sparks to approve the 2024 Proposed Budget. This motion was unanimously approved. Julie also reported that it is required that we have an audit completed each year by a CPA, and she has found one whose fee is $600.

Walk Update- Janis Eldridge reported that the 22nd Annual Walk for Awareness will be taking place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Long Leaf Park. All members are needed to volunteer the day of the Walk, as well as helping to fundraise for the Silent Auction. Marketing/fundraising materials have been previously emailed to all board members.

Programs Update- Chuck Eldridge reported on meeting with the Boys & Girls Club to discuss any type of partnership. They are interested in our ‘’Ending the Silence” program as soon as possible. NAMI on Campus members, Hannah Hopkins and Caleb Barker will be representing NAMI-Wilmington at the YMCA Health Fair on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Chuck also discussed the continued success of The Healing Place support group. With the large attendance each week, there is hope to encourage the overflow to seek out the “Youngish” support as another alternative.

Communications Coordinator- Kay Sargent, our Communications Coordinator is looking for volunteers to assist her with social media content.

President’s Report- Doug Engelman reported that NAMI National is in the process of making some Bylaw changes. One possible change for the future may be the removal of membership fees, which will be decided on by a future vote. Doug also discussed our succession planning, specifically in regards to his President’s term ending in October 2024. Candidates are currently being vetted by the Nominating Committee. Due to a scheduling conflict, there was discussion about moving next month’s Public Board Meeting to Tuesday, May 14th, but we are now planning on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm.

The next NAMI Wilmington Public Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 6:00pm at UNCW Bear Hall, Room 206.
