Thursdays with NAMI: Cierra Cobb of Emancipate NC shares skills for living independently on the outside

Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022

Anyone with a mental health condition is more likely than the average bear to end up in jail or prison, especially if they happen to be a person of color. So what happens when they are released? Are they embraced by the community and flooded with support? Usually not.

Emancipate NC Family Advocate Cierra Cobb will share her insights about learning to live independently after incarceration. Cierra coordinates prison and jail support for the nonprofit Emancipate NC, and she advocates for all incarcerated people and their families. She is the host of a podcast called Black Light, which focuses on real stories from incarcerated peers and their families. It is dedicated to uplifting and humanizing individuals facing prison time.
