Today, over 60 people joined NAMI North Carolina for our 2024 Advocacy Day event at the North Carolina General Assembly in downtown Raleigh. Participants were able to meet legislators, tell their stories, and discuss their concerns for better mental health policy in their communities.

Our group was joined by Secretary Kody Kinsley, NC Dept. of Health and Human Services; Director Kelly Crosbie, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services; Dr. Micah Krempasky, Chief Medical Officer at WakeMed, and several county commissioners and legislators. Representative Joe John (D-Wake) and Senator Dan Blue (D-Wake) held Q&A sessions for our group, hearing about their personal stories and struggles one-on-one.

We rounded off the event with ice cream on the Legislative Building portico from Howling Cow Creamery at NC State University.
