Thursdays with NAMI: Laurita Barber is a trauma survivor, Army veteran, Aromatherapist

Laurita Barber is a survivor of childhood trauma, a National Guard veteran, a NAMI program trainer, and now a Certified Aromatherapist. In June 2022, she will complete her coursework as a Healing Practitioner in Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry.
She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2002 and kept her job as long as she could. In 2010 she had to step back due to complications of the illness. Laurita thought she would never work again.
A couple years later she found NAMI in Columbus, Ohio – and found a second home. Soon she was a teacher and trainer of NAMI programs. The work was emotionally gratifying without being physically demanding.
Laurita is a woman of many talents. Most recently, she became a Certified Aromatherapist and started a business called Earth’s Extract. It all aligns with her mission of helping others to heal mentally, emotionally, and physically; as does Healing Touch.
“Too many of us spend too much of our lives in pain,” she said. “Often times the pain is so debilitating that we can find ourselves stuck for months, years, and even decades. If I can serve people by helping them to feel better, then I am truly humbled.”
