Most of us have seen a movie or series with an autistic character like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man or how about ”Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series”? But what exactly is the condition known as Autism Spectrum Disorder? Typically it involves challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. Individuals with ASD also tend to be independent thinkers who are straightforward, direct and honest. Join us this week on Thursdays with NAMI for a discussion of life on the spectrum with people who have actually been there. Two individuals who live with ASD will share their stories: Jeff Day, PhD, of the Duke Autism Center of Excellence Community Engagement Advisory Board; and NAMI Durham Board Member Jackie Pilgrim. Bringing the clinical perspective will be Dr. Nathan Copeland, the attending physician at the Duke Center for Autism Clinic.

Thursdays with NAMI starts at 7pm and is free and open to all, but registration is required. To register and view the schedule for future sessions, please click HERE.
