Public Board Meeting

The Board meeting for the NAMI Wilmington Chapter was called to order by Doug
Engelman, President at 7:00 pm. A quorum was established with seven board members
present.

Old Business:
A motion was made by Julie Morrow and seconded by Bob Taglin to approve the minutes from
the August 15, 2023 NAMI Wilmington Public Board Meeting. This motion was unanimously
approved.

New Business:
Financial Report- Julie Morrow reported on the Statement of Activity for January- August 2023.
Total revenue is $44,133.28 with total expenditures of $26,134 resulting in a net operating
revenue of $17,999.28.

Walk Update- Janis Eldridge reported that to date we have over $16,000 committed from our
Walk sponsors.The Walk will be taking place on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Long Leaf
Park in Wilmington. Registration is on our website at namiwilmington.org. Radio advertising will
begin September 21 on WGNI and run twice a day until the Walk. Doug Engelman will be
interviewed on WECT promoting the Walk on Monday, September 25th. All volunteers need to
be at the park by 8:00 am.

Board Member Nominations Committee- Doug Engelman reported on the need for a Nominating
Committee to be formed to proceed with the voting process of current potential Board Member
canidates. Brian Mingia volunteered to help on the committee.

Support Programs Update- Chuck Eldridge reported that we currently have three underserved
Peer Support Groups established. They are Domestic Violence, PAMH/Ocean House and The
Healing Place of New Hanover. The Provider Program is underway with the following members Kim Palmer, Carolyn Craddock and Chuck. Dennis Doll is currently in training and Chuck will
verify if Sheryl Sparks is eligible to be a member as well. Chuck mentioned the Family to Family
Education Course has seven people already interested in signing up. More details to follow with
dates selected. Dennis Doll discussed the Certification Training process needed for the Ending
the Silence presenters. They will need both in-person and online training for leaders, students
and young adults. Dennis is trying to get into the New Hanover school system by first reaching
out to the school board and parent advisor board with presentations.

President’s Report- Doug Engelman reported on the current status of NAMI NC and newly hired
Holly Doggett as NC State Director. She has expressed the importance of fidelity. In order to
improve our chapter’s fidelity among the current support programs we will be implementing a
“Fidelity Coach”

Communications- Doug Engelmen and Michelle Hettmann are working on contact information
improvements, specifically regarding the website. Their top priority is to resolve issues for
accuracy of resource information. A decision needs to be made regarding Michelle’s consulting
contract which is due to end in October.

The next NAMI Wilmington Public Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 17,
2023 at 7:00pm at UNCW Bear Hall Room 101.
