North Carolina legislators announced on Thursday that they had reached an agreement on a bill to expand Medicaid to over 600,000 additional North Carolinians through the Affordable Care Act.
Although the bill won’t be formally voted on until later in March at the earliest, the agreement marks a huge victory for healthcare and mental health advocates, who have fought for Medicaid expansion for over a decade. If the deal is formalized, the state would start providing expanded coverage as soon as January 2024.
