Thursdays with NAMI: Let’s talk about rural mental health

April 13, 2023

North Carolina is increasingly urban, but the majority of our 100 counties is not. Mental illness is just as common in rural areas. However, rural North Carolinians are less likely to receive help. Medical providers available to them are less likely to be mental health specialists. Add in the unique stressors of living in agricultural or economically declining areas, and it is clear why rural mental health is a growing problem.

This week on Thursdays with NAMI, our guest is Dr. Brenda Mack, a leading authority on rural mental health. Brenda is a Professor of Social Work at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. Whether you are a resident of one of the rural counties in our state, or simply a person who believes that mental health resources should be readily available to all, you will not want to miss this conversation. This event is free and open to the public. Find us on Facebook Live (https://fb.me/e/2rzT8EuDf) or register to participate on Zoom: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Ry-Ox5JVTKqITT8Unp_YiQ.
