NAMI NC hosted our first Juneteenth event, celebrating African American mental health and resiliency, on June 16 at Anderson Point Park in Raleigh. Participants enjoyed excellent food from Bbee’s Catering and insightful speeches from Nina Leger, Consuela Chapman, Sage Chioma, Royce Allegretto, and Sherry Burden.
During the event, NAMI NC gave out two inaugural DEI awards:
- The Community Excellence Award went to NAMI Durham’s Stress and Anxiety Support Group for African Americans for their incredible work meeting the mental health needs of the black community following the racially charged events of 2020.
- The NAMI NC All-Stars Award went to Fayetteville State University’s NAMI on Campus chapter for its tireless efforts reaching FSU college students with support and resources. The NAMI on Campus at FSU is the first chapter hosted by an HBCU in the nation.
