Our 2024 Mental Health Awareness Month theme is “Take the Moment.” As the mental health crisis in North Carolina continues to grow, it’s now more important than ever to take a moment for mental health – not only for our well-being, but so that our communities know that mental health support and help is available.

Did you know:

  • 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year, and only half of them receive treatment.
  • 1 in 6 U.S. youth experience a mental health condition each year.
  • 122 million people in the U.S. live in Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas.
  • 7 in 10 Americans agree that people with mental health conditions face discrimination in their everyday life.

Here are ways you can “take a moment” for mental health:

  • Schedule 30-60 minutes of your day to focus on self-care or wellness activities.
  • Spread awareness about NAMI education and support programs to people in your sphere of influence.
  • Write a letter to your local congressperson advocating for policies that improve mental healthcare access and equity.
