Balancing calm and crisis. On Thursday, April 7th at 7pm, NAMI NC will host a session with Tiffanie Ritenour-Herring, a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Coordinator with Trillium Health Resources in eastern North Carolina. CIT is a nationally-recognized program that focuses on mental health, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and jail-diversion for law enforcement and other first responders.

The daughter of a police officer, Tiffanie noticed early on the importance of communication in criminal justice. She is passionate about crisis response. She believes effective communication is key to negotiation and compliance. Tiffanie is also the author of “Simply Deescalate,” an easy-to-use guide on how to deescalate conflict and crisis. A graduate of East Carolina University, she studied both Interpersonal and Organizational Communication and Criminal Justice. Tiffanie has worked in the criminal justice field for over 15 years with many different agencies across the state including the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Department of Public Safety, and the Governor’s Crime Commission.
