In 1990, Craig Waleed was an inmate serving a 12-year sentence who did 30 days in solitary confinement. The extended isolation of that 30-day period was so emotionally scarring that it haunts him over 30 years later. Dr. Waleed is now an advocate with the Disability Rights North Carolina’s “Unlock the Box” campaign, which lobbies against the continued use of solitary confinement in prisons. Read his story here.
