Tuesday, January 16, 2024 NAMI Wilmington Chapter Public Board Meeting

The Board meeting for the NAMI Wilmington Chapter was called to order by Doug Engelman, President at 6:00 pm. A quorum was established with five board members present.

Old Business:

A motion was made by Doug Engelman and seconded by Julie Morrow to approve the minutes from the November 21, 2023 NAMI Wilmington Public Board Meeting. This motion was unanimously approved.

New Business:

Financial Report- Julie Morrow reported on the Statement of Activity from January December 2023. Total Revenue reported was $60,126.06, and total Expenditures reported was $40,684.02, resulting in a Net Revenue of $19,442.04.

Membership Report- Janis Eldridge reported that our chapter reached a milestone of 100 members. Many of the new members are signed up already for Support Facilitator training. Also, we have a confirmed date of Saturday, September 28 2024 for our NAMI Annual Walk for Awareness.

Support Programs- Chuck Eldridge reported on the status of our 7 active support programs. Family to family Training course is currently finishing up. Peer Support program at the New Hanover Behavioral Health Center meets every Friday at 3:30. Our Youngish Support Group will include in-person soon. The Healing Place Support Group averages 30 members, and will break into smaller groups soon. Peer Connection, Family and Senior support groups continue with regular attendance.Currently there are 29 facilitators with 13 more in training. The Healing Place of New Hanover will be celebrating their one year anniversary having a

5K Run & Walk on Saturday, February 3, 2024. All are welcome, fee is $40 per person. President’s Report- Doug Engelman discussed the need for the Executive Board to formalize specific committees such as the following- Bylaws Committee for roles and responsibilities, and Nominating Committee for new board members and officer selection. The proposed date for the Board Member only retreat is Saturday, February 10, 2024. Further discussion on these committees will be held during the retreat. Kimberly Light offered to help arrange a volunteer retreat/event that will be held at a later date.

Special Project- Virginia Goldrick spoke about the “Awakening Project” that she was involved with in Illinois. Megan, Dylan, Brandon and Lily from The Healing Place have volunteered as a committee to work with Virginia with this Fine Arts Project. More details to follow at the February 20, 2024 Public Board Meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm.

The next NAMI Public Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at UNCW Bear Hall, Room 206.
