Thursdays with NAMI: A Walk Down Memory Lane with Daryn and Suzan Nelsen-Soza

7 p.m. June 2, 2022

TWN will kick off Pride Month with Daryn and Suzan Nelsen-Soza, a lesbian couple whose story goes back 20 years. They will share the secrets of their success navigating the intersections of race, mental health, and LGBTQ status. Join us to learn from their strides and their struggles.

Daryn Nelsen-Soza, LICSW, is a Senior Program Manager for NAMI as well as a state and national trainer. Her job is to develop educational tools to support community-based workers and individuals who may encounter folks with mental health concerns. Daryn received her MSW from University of Southern California where she focused on clinical mental health.

Suzan is a 12th generation Hispanic American and proud daughter of a WWII veteran. Her family has deep roots in Southern Arizona, where the Soza name is noted in historical documents dating to 1746. Suzan is a training coordinator at Bonneville Power Administration in Washington state. One reason that Daryn loves Suzan is, “She has put up with me and my issues forever!”

When they are not fighting stigma (Daryn) or reading history books (Suzan), they enjoy hanging out with each other and their two cocker spaniels. This event is free and open to the public.
