Thursdays with NAMI: Craig Waleed knows what it means to ‘unlock the box’ after incarceration

Thursday, January 19, 7:00pm

Craig Waleed’s mission is to disrupt the community-to-prison pipeline. Using a combination of lived experience and formal education, he educates and motivates others to overcome life’s barriers and make life a more rewarding experience. He joined Disability Rights North Carolina in May 2022 to manage the Unlock the Box (UTB) Campaign Against Solitary Confinement. He is effective because he’s been there: “After completing a 12-year prison sentence, I became a Doctor of Education. I want to share my story of perseverance, hope and self-efficacy with you.”

Craig is an educator, counselor, certified Restorative Practices group facilitator, author, and motivational speaker. He completed his doctoral studies in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. He was a TEDx guest speaker at SingSing in 2020 and makes regular podcast appearances. This event is free and open to the public. Join us on Facebook Live or register to participate on Zoom.
