For decades, mental health in North Carolina has been underfunded and overlooked. All the while, the mental health of North Carolinians has struggled and, in some cases, declined.

Leaders are starting to realize that, for this to turn around, there will need to be some fundamental changes made. Taylor Knopf of NC Health News* has suggested that there needs to be serious work done in early intervention, payer parity, a larger pool of providers, and, what seems to be the middle rail in recent legislative sessions, Medicaid Expansion.
