In recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, each week Tuesday Newsday will present some aspect of this important and difficult topic.

On the evening of September 13, your local PBS station will air a new documentary entitled Facing Suicide. Featuring NAMI North Carolina Board of Director member Fonda Bryant, the film highlights the importance of social support and candor in overcoming suicidal thoughts. The documentary presents the poignant stories of those who have faced suicide, and the research that is being done to shed light on the topic. The goal is to reduce the stigma being felt by those who are grappling with thoughts of suicide.

Fonda, along with NAMI NC Public Policy Director Ashish George, appeared on a panel at UNC-TV’s studio on August 31st following a screening of the film. The documentary will air at 9 p.m. on September 13th on PBS. You can learn more about it here: https://www.pbs.org/show/facing-suicide/.
