We have been concerned that we’ve been lacking in offering support and awareness programs for our under 18 population. To address that need, we’ve launched a new “Ending the Silence” initiative. Ending the Silence is a great program targeting Middle School, High School, and College students. Under this new initiative, we are in the process of training 3 pairs of presenters, with the expectation of several more in the coming year. This program has seen great success nationally. Now NAMI Wilmington will be able to offer it to our youth in the tri-county area!
Each presentation has two leaders, (One adult family member or peer and one young adult peer). Our teams in training should be ready by March. We plan to begin with numerous presentations in various colleges within UNCW to build expertise, then roll the program out to Pender, New Hanover, Brunswick and Onslow county schools.
This initiative will require some administration. Publicity, answering requests and questions, scheduling venues and presentation teams, administering evaluations, etc. We are looking for an ETS Coordinator. Please contact Chuck Eldridge at namiwilm@gmail.com if you know anyone interested.
