In just a few months, an estimated 1.6 to 1.8 million Medicaid and NC Health Choice beneficiaries will transition to Medicaid Managed Care. Some beneficiaries will stay in fee-for-service known as NC Medicaid Direct.
With transformation happening, most people in NC Medicaid must choose a health plan in the NC Medicaid Managed Care program. You may be unsure if you need to choose a managed care health plan. To help answer this question, NC Medicaid has created this “Do I Need to Choose a Health Plan?” fact sheet.
For those that need a manage care health plan, open enrollment ends May 14, 2021. Beneficiaries who enroll with a health plan during open enrollment will have the opportunity to select a PCP from a list of contracted providers. If they do not choose a health plan before May 14, one will be assigned to them by NC Medicaid.
The launch of NC Medicaid Managed Care is July 1.
