Mike Estrada will be featured on this week’s Thursdays with NAMI. Mike is a teacher whose mother lived with schizoaffective disorder. As he tried for decades to help her access care in California he began to write about the experience: ‘My mom, and others like her, deserve to live with more respect and dignity than they were given and shown. This blog was, initially, an attempt to get help and support for us.’ After her death in 2018 he took a year off to document his story with video. ‘Benevolent Neglect’ has been acclaimed by best selling author Pete Earley, who called it an important film that should be promoted by mental health advocates everywhere.

Thursdays with NAMI starts at 7pm and is free and open to all, but registration is required. To register and view the schedule for future sessions, please click HERE .
