Medicaid Open Enrollment is Open!

In just a few months, an estimated 1.6 to 1.8 million Medicaid and NC Health Choice beneficiaries will transition to Medicaid Managed Care. Some beneficiaries will stay in fee-for-service known as NC Medicaid Direct.

Most people in NC Medicaid must choose a health plan in the NC Medicaid Managed Care program. To meet the best needs of Medicaid families it is recommended that they choose their plan during the open enrollment period which is open now thru May 14, 2021. Note that some people can choose to stay in fee-for-service known as NC Medicaid Direct. They will not need to choose a health plan. NC Medicaid Managed Care is sending letters that tells Medicaid recipients if they must enroll. If your are eligible for Medicaid and you have received a letter or have questions call 1-833-870-5500 (TTY: 1-833-870-5588).

In general, Medicaid recipients must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens, and may include low-income adults, their children, and people with certain disabilities.
