Medicaid: It Provides More than You Think!

NAMI North Carolina is a firm advocate of Medicaid expansion. When North Carolina joins the 38 other states who have expanded Medicaid with federal support, hundreds of thousands of persons now without healthcare coverage will be able to receive care.

But Clarissa Donnelly-DeRoven of North Carolina Health News points out that Medicaid has the potential for providing more than health insurance to lower income citizens. Using a newly launched Healthy Opportunities Pilot, Medicaid recipients may be eligible to receive fresh produce and, once the kinks are worked out, transportation and housing assistance.
