Care about affordable housing? Transportation, public safety, or other local issues? If you haven’t already, you may want to check whether or not your county or town has one of the more than 930 local elections in NC scheduled for today.

As a NAMI Advocate Engagement Manager points out, locally elected officials affect our community-based services and supports. If your county or city operates mobile crisis services or peer support programs, your council members make decisions about funding for these services. Additionally, your elected sheriff, elected district attorney or elected judges play a role in policies to divert people with mental health conditions from justice system involvement.

All elections matter, but typically only a small number of people vote in an off-year election. So raise your voice this year and VOTE!
