Help NAMI End The Silence!

Submit An Entry To Our Video Contest For A Chance To Win Up To $5,000!*

*Contest is open to NAMI members or active volunteers with a NAMI State Organization or NAMI Affiliate only.

Are you a budding videographer or know people who love being behind the lens? Then don’t miss a chance to submit a video to our NAMI Ending the Silence Video Contest! All video submissions are due by January 11, 2021, using the entry form below.

We are seeking new videos to use in our NAMI Ending the Silence (ETS) for Students presentation program. NAMI ETS is an evidence-based program that helps middle and high school students learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if they or a loved one are showing symptoms. For more detailed information about NAMI ETS, click here.

Our previous ETS videos featured high school students, as part of the Directing Change Project in California, and covered topics such as fighting stigma around mental health conditions, how to be a friend to someone in need, information about specific symptoms and other topics that middle and high school students can relate to.

For this contest, we’re looking for video submissions that fall into one of the following categories:

  1. How to help a friend
  2. Communities of color
  3. Understanding warning signs
  4. You’re not alone
  5. Asking for help

All video submissions* must meet the following criteria:

  • Submitter of the video must be a NAMI member or an active volunteer with a NAMI State Organization or NAMI Affiliate
  • Be created by young people (ages 15-25)
  • Feature youth of different backgrounds, ethnicities and experiences (although featuring other people in the video is not mandatory)
  • Be about mental health and relatable to middle and high school students
  • Run no longer than 1½ minutes long
  • Using people first language. For example:
    • Saying “people with mental health conditions” instead of “the mentally ill”
    • Saying “I have bipolar disorder” instead of “I’m bipolar”
  • Be shot horizontally and in HD resolution (1080p or 1920×1080)
  • Be submitted as an MP4 format via Google Doc or Dropbox link
  • Include our signed Talent Release Form for each person featured in the video (download the form here)

*Videos can be submitted in English and/or in Spanish

Videos containing any of the following will NOT be considered:

  • Graphic depictions of triggering topics like cutting, suicide, abuse
  • Advertisements for local resources (videos will be used nationally)
  • Statistics of any kind (these change too frequently to stay current)
  • Any branded products or clothing (example: anyone in the video wearing Nike-branded articles of clothing, a Coca Cola can in the background, etc.
  • Background music

Select videos will be shown during ETS presentations or used for other marketing purposes, such as anti-stigma campaigns. Any questions about the contest can be directed to jrothman@nami.org.
