Thursdays with NAMI: Happy Happy, Joy Joy! Tips for managing holiday triggers

Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022

The holidays are a time of stress for many trauma survivors because there seems to be an increased sense of isolation. We perceive the rest of the world as joyful and happy, while we are stuck in the darkness of a difficult past.

The reasons are many. There may be specific triggers based on trauma that occurred during the season.

Then there’s the tendency to take stock of our lives around New Year’s Day. For those of us with a loud inner critic, it’s prime time for harsh self-talk and shame. Or maybe the loss of a loved one hits home in a powerful way on a special holiday after their death.

How can we have a season of healing instead of feeling left behind? Join us for a talk with NAMI NC Board Member Jackie Pilgrim, who speaks to recovery with a unique blend of wisdom and skill. Jackie is a trauma survivor, poet, blogger, and mental health advocate. She is the 2022 recipient of the NAMI NC Mike Mayer Advocate of the Year award.

This event is free and open to the public. Find us on Facebook Live or register hereto participate on Zoom.
