I am delighted to share with you that on October 12th, we are started a Family Support Group specifically for parents and adolescents struggling with mental health challenges. Two years ago, my oldest daughter tried to commit suicide at the age of 17. She had been struggling with depression and anxiety and was seeing a wonderful counselor at the time. However, it wasn’t enough, I had no resources, and no one knew how to help us further. It was an extremely dark time and I felt utterly alone. My eyes were then opened to the devastating state of mental healthcare, especially for adolescents.
Many parents, like myself, feel overwhelmed, helpless, guilty, confused, and alone. My hope is that this group will provide a safe place to share struggles, make connections, find resources and guidance on how to navigate the mental health system to get the help needed. Members will not only receive support, but have the opportunity to offer support. Ultimately, my heart’s desire is that this group will provide hope and healing.
