Cumberland County could receive additional funding for veteran crisis intervention if a bill in the North Carolina General Assembly becomes law.

The bill, which was filed by House Majority Leader John Bell on March 23, is known as House Bill 370 — the No Veteran Left Behind Act.

Supporters of the bill say the pilot program would be for counties with high veteran populations and help expand training for local law enforcement and first responders on veteran-specific crisis intervention, suicide prevention and Veterans Affairs resources available for the veterans they encounter.
